Yesterday, I talked about my support for Israel. Today, I will look at my perspective on what this means here in Arizona and probably throughout the United States.
The first thing that has happened is that people have realized that the terrorist threat is still real. They have had the opportunity to see the leaders from the Democrat and Republican parties give their perspectives on the war and what it means for us.
Democrats come down to basically, Israel has the right to defend itself. They are gong a bit too far in doing so. They should agree to a cease fire. The United States should stay out of the situation. We should not give Israel any support morally or physically. They also say that the terrorists should stop bombing Israel. Some do not question Israel's borders, they question the legitimacy of the United States borders.
Republicans on the other hand give whole hearted support for Israel. They believe that we should give moral and physical support to them. Republicans believe that Israel should not stop until the terrorists have been rooted out in Lebanon and Gaza. They also believe that Israel's borders are legitimate and so also are the United States borders.
Second, from the responses of the different parties, people in the United States get to see in stark contrast the most important issue of our times. They see the wishy washy response of the Democrats and the strong response of the Republicans. This should translate well to the house and senate races in the fall. At one time it looked like Republicans could lose both houses, it now appears unlikely they will lose even one house. They may even pick up some sears. People want to be safe. With the Democrats, people know that there will be people killed here in the United States and elsewhere. With the Republicans, the chances are that we will continue in the safety we have enjoyed since 2001. There is always a chance of a terrorist attack. But the chances are dramatically reduced under a Republican administration than under a Democrat administration.
As for a prediction in November, I predict that the Republicans will retain both houses of congress. They will increase their advantage in both the house and senate. Let's check back in November and see how right/wrong I am.
