Global Warming

In today's Arizona Republic, there was an article about some companies that are funding one of the last scientists that don't believe in global warming. Now, the funding of this scientist is admirable and I applaud the independence of this scientist. What I object to is the premise in the paper that this scientist is one of the last that does not believe in global warming.

First of all, there is no evidence that there is any global warming. That temperatures have gone up in the last 100 years is true. Most of the rise was between 1900 and 1940. In fact, between 1980 and 2000 the temperature remained exactly the same. If global warming was such a problem, the temperature should continue to rise. It would definitely not stay the same for over 20 years. That we are seeing a warm summer is true, but summer is supposed to be warm. We are not setting temperature records. The high temperatures around the country are still within the maximum and minimum temperatures ever recorded for those days. We are just stringing a few of the hotter days together. Whooppee doo!

The people that are most concerned with global warming could have done something about it during the 1990's when Bill Clinton and Al Gore were in office. They did nothing to stop global warming. They want Republicans to take action. Then, when that proves to be a disaster, then Republicans will get the blame. Then, Democrats can get in office when people realize tha Republicans make very bad Democrats.

If Republicans have any brains, and sometimes I really wonder about those in Washington, they will resist the calls to destroy the United States to stop a myth from happening. But, the Republicans in congress are constantly listening to the inside the beltway media and seem to take everything they say as what we believe. The inside the beltway media is so out of touch with reality that they do not represent anybody in the US. The longer a congress person is in congress, the more likely they are to "grow" and become more like a Democrat. That is a bad thing. Republicans really do make bad Democrats. They try to appease the Democrats in congress to get praise and get scorn in stead.

Those of us in the real world that believe real world things, should keep our congress people grounded in what is important. I do write my Senators and Representative in Congress. I do it occasionally. To do it constantly would diminish the importance of my message. But about 4-6 times a year, I write each one a letter. Senator Kyl is great at returning my letter. Senator McCain is not as prompt. Representative Jeff Flake is doing a great job in the House of Representatives. Two out of three is pretty good. Most of you would have a hard time beating my record. It can be beaten, but still hard to beat.
