First, I must say that what Mark Foley is supposed to have done was bad. It was right for him to resign from the House of Representatives. It is right to have a criminal investigation into wrongdoing. It does not excuse him from wrongdoing by claiming that he was abused as a child. It also does not excuse him from wrongdoing by claiming that he has an alcohol problem.
Today, I heard an interview on the radio with a person that claimed to have known Mark Foley for many years. He was very sure that the instant messages that were out were not written by Mark Foley. He used as evidence the care that Mark took in not attending homosexual events. Mark avoided any mention of homosexuality. He was careful not to get drawn into comments on homosexuality.
That got me to thinking about the entire series of events. The instant messages in question were written in 2003. That is three years ago. First, where have they been for the last three years. If they are so bad, where were they? Who knew about them? Second, who saves instant messages. I have never kept instant messages. I delete them when finished. This would especially true if the instant message contained something I did not like. I would just be glad to get rid of it. I believe that most people are the same. There is something fishy about people keeping instant messages for over three years and then bringing it out.
So, for me, alarm bells are now going off. There is something too cute about this entire affair. The timing is too perfect. It sounds like the dirty tricks that the Clinton's carried on during their term in office. I hope the Clinton spin machine is not up and running again. My guess is that it is running and it is spinning. That means we can expect more of the same.
One other aspect of the Clinton spin machine is that they manufacture facts that they need to destroy. When the truth comes out later, the damage has already been done. This is beginning to sound like that kind of dirty trick. It would not surprise me if these instant messages have been doctored to make them worse than they were. I am sure that Mark Foley did not keep copies of the instant messages on his computer. He probably doesn't even have the same computer to check.
I hate to say this, but it is sounds lie a set-up. Mark Foley is guilty of contacting House pages after their tour of duty and that was wrong. He has resigned from the House. I am beginning to smell a rat. I wonder how many other people are beginning to smell a rat. The timing of everything is just too perfect. The coordinated efforts of all the Democrats is too perfect. If this was really spontaneous, there would be missteps. The Democrats are on the cutting edge of the scandal revelations. In real life, nobody is on the cutting edge of the scandal except the people exposing it or the people revealing it. Sounds like they may have been sitting on this for some time.
