Today, in the Arizona Republic, they endorsed Democrat Harry Mitchell over Republican JD Hayworth. Harry Mitchell was Mayor of Tempe, then a State Senator from Tempe. He was involved in some scandals out of the Harry Reid mold about 15-20 years ago. He managed to get out of the indictment by influence with the courts. They couldn't indict or convict a powerful politician like Harry Mitchell. So, the entire investigation fizzled.
JD Hayworth is brash and willing to call a spade a spade. He has made enemies within the Democrat ranks. The endorsement of Harry Mitchell is the payback for the enemies JD made over the years. JD is an effective legislator. He is a fresh face on TV. He is willing to dust it up with anyone over just about anything. Harry Mitchell has tried to paint JD with all sorts of corruption brushes. All of them ring true when applied to Harry Mitchell, but ring false when applied to JD Hayworth. JD may be a lot of things, but corrupt, he is not.
The campaign between the two has disintegrated from positions to one of he is corrupt, no, he is corrupt. As someone not in their district, it is a little disgusting. But, Harry Mitchell is accusing JD of doing things that Harry Mitchell actually did years ago. It just follows that Democrats accuse Republicans of doing things they do. They accuse them of doing them because they are doing them. So, Republicans must be doing them also. The best way to deflect criticism from you is to accuse your opponent of corruption first. The only problem is that you have to be clean of corruption in your past to get away with this ruse. Democrats rarely are clean of corruption. Harry Mitchell is neck deep in corruption. The Arizona Republic chooses to ignore Harry Mitchell's real brushes with the law for JD's phantom brushes with phantom laws.
It is my opinion that JD will win this election going away. Harry Mitchell may be powerful in Tempe, but no place else in the congressional district. Most of the congressional district sees Harry Mitchell for what he is, a sleazy opportunist. The judges in New Jersey may have dealt the death toll for Harry Mitchell's campaign. Republicans are becoming energized. They were going to vote, but were not excited. The judges should get the base excited about voting and you should see wide margins. That is good news for everyone, especially Democrats.
