Political Interest

Why don't people get interested in politics between elections? The question mystifies me. I have a constant interest in politics and who is running for what office that will be important to me. When I try to talk to my wife about politics between election periods, she shows no interest whatsoever.

I have always known who was President, Vice-President, both Senators, Representative, Governor, State Senator, and State Representatives. My wife does not care who is in any of the positions until it is time to select the next one. And, even then, she only gets interested a few days before she casts her vote. I must say, she does do her homework in the end. She just does not study all of the time like me.

I must say the difference between my wife and I is mystifying to me. I cannot understand how someone cannot be interested all of the time. The information is so important that it is important to know what is going on all of the time. My wife says that there is nothing she can do about it, so why pay any attention. When I tell her that we can influence different issues, she says that is my job.

I guess that there are those that pay attention all of the time and those that do not. Those of us that do pay attention all of the time will weed out the riff-raff and let the others choose who will ultimately lead us. There are far more of the uninterested than the interested during most of the year. We discuss issues and topics and help weed out the candidates that cannot handle the heat. Already one Democrat candidate has dropped out. That shows how the system works. When the uninterested take a look, it will be two or three per party. Then when they pay attention again it will be one from each party.

I guess if everyone paid attention all of the time, the world would be pretty boring. Right now it is a pretty exciting world. Lots of things are happening and everyone has a place to play in the world. It does get frustrating when apathy seems to rule the roost.
