This morning, I read an article by Joseph Farah that documents the fact that the Democrat party leadership is still as racist as ever. He uses as his main argument a speech by Chuck Schumer of New York. He made this speech in Buffalo.
Buffalo has very high unemployment, 17%. Black unemployment is much higher than that. In the speech, Chuck Schumer made the point that blacks should not have to worry because whites would be retiring from the unskilled positions. He inferred that the blacks did not have the intelligence to get higher education to get the higher paying positions. He undoubtedly thought that he was saying something that the black population would like to hear. It was demeaning.
Bill Clinton also has an office in Harlem. Harlem is a high black population area in New York City. Bill Clinton talks about this office frequently, but he is almost never there. Bill Clinton likes to be thought of as the first Black President, but he does not like to be around black people, particularly smart black people.
I also use the example of appointing blacks to positions within Presidential administrations. Democrat Presidents always appoint blacks to their cabinets. They appoint them to positions like Postmaster where they have no real authority. They get to act like a big shot, but have no power. The power positions are always held by people that are white.
The Democrats also will not allow anyone to talk about the only former member of the Ku Klux Klan in the Senate, Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Robert Byrd held a high position within the West Virginia KKK in the 1940’s and early 1950’s. He left the KKK when the Democrat party started to need the black vote to win elections. Robert Byrd still uses the n word frequently when referring to blacks. Robert Byrd is a high ranking member of the Democrat Senate leadership.
The KKK was formed in the late 1860’s to kill Republicans. In the south, being a Republican generally meant that you were black. Being convicted of being a Republican was enough to warrant a hanging. All members of the KKK were Democrats. In fact in the south, to be a Democrat meant that you had to belong to the KKK to hold any kind of elective office. It stayed that way until the Civil Rights movement came along in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
When the Civil Rights bill was first introduced, it was introduced by Dwight Eisenhower. It was written by Republicans. The Democrats in the House and Senate killed the bill. After Lyndon Johnson became President, the bill was reintroduced with minor changes. It was now a Democrat bill. When it passed the Senate, a higher percentage of Republicans voted for the bill than did Democrats. But, because the bill passed during a Democrat administration Democrats get the benefit of having passed the bill.
Today, the Democrats are a party that cannot get over racial politics. Everything they do has a racial component. When they select delegates to the convention, a certain percentage have to be of a certain race and gender. When Democrats select members of a cabinet, so many members have to be black. Republicans on the other hand are not concerned with race. They are concerned with quality. As a result, a higher number of blacks hold power positions in Republican administrations than have ever held them in Democrat administrations.
Why blacks stay with the Democrat party is beyond my comprehension. If I was treated as badly as blacks are treated by the Democrats, I would get the message and leave. I believe that blacks stay because the Democrat party has purchased the loyalty of a few black leaders and that is enough to keep the majority in line. It would also explain the anger and violence when a black becomes a conservative. Blacks have to be kept in line for the race baiters that are paid off to continue to be paid off. They have to deliver 90%+ of the black vote in every election. When your numbers have to be that high, even one defection can be costly.
Hispanics seem to be playing it better than blacks. Hispanics are not wedded to any one group. As a result, they have real power in the Republican Party and the Democrats are giving lip service to giving them power. If blacks played it that way, they would be much better off as a group.
