In recent days, there have been some attempted airline hijackings. Each case has been stopped through the actions of the passengers and crew. This increase in attempted hijackings cannot be isolated. There has to be some master plan that includes hijacking planes. Yet, the Obama administration insists that there is no threat from Muslim extremists. They are more concerned with the Tea Party goers and those that want the United States to return to using the Constitution as the guide for the country. That seems entirely backwards.
Nothing that the Obama administration does makes sense on the surface. The Obama administration always reacts just exactly the opposite way that common sense would dictate. When all signs point to Muslim extremists as the threat, they worry about American Patriots. When terrorists are loose in the world, they worry about returning veterans. The Patriots and veterans are the backbone of America. They are what made America strong since 1776. They will be what keeps America strong for the next few hundred years. The Muslim extremists have said that they want to destroy America and everything she believes in. That sounds like someone that we should watch to me.
One of the attempted hijackers was an individual that the FBI was warned about a couple of years ago. The government did nothing during that time. I am assuming that there had to be a reason for the inaction, but on the surface it does not look good.
With all this evidence that the terrorists have not given up, the Obama administration still is trying to fight this war as a police action. They want our military to use the same rules to fight a war that our police departments use to capture criminals from a generally law abiding population. That is just stupid. When you fight a war, you should fight a war. You should decide you are going to win and then do what is necessary to win the war. If you want police to capture criminals, then you should get policemen to capture criminals. But our military are not trained to be police. They are trained to fight a war against an enemy that does not have the same rules of engagement that we do. They should be allowed to fight the enemy and destroy them. That would go a long way in securing our borders from foreign invaders. Getting our military to be police is a way to get more military personnel killed. It also brings disrespect for our military from other foreign countries that might have dark designs on America.
During the Civil War, President Lincoln and the North had a problem for most of the war. They tried to fight the war without involving the civilian population. That was not possible then and it is not possible now. It is especially not possible because the terrorist groups use the civilians as cover because they know we will not shoot at civilians. We do that at our own peril. During the Civil War, when President Lincoln found a general that would fight a “total war”, the north became victorious. Until then, it was pretty much of a stalemate. After the “total war” started, it was just a matter of time before the South lost. We are pretty much at that crossroads now in Afghanistan. We managed to extract ourselves from Iraq, for the most part. But, we are getting bogged down in Afghanistan because the left is putting more handcuffs on our troops than is necessary.
My guess is that things will bounce along like this for the next couple of years with nothing being accomplished. If Obama wins in 2012, we lose in Afghanistan and our troops come home with their tail between their legs. If Obama loses, the Taliban gets routed in quick order in Afghanistan and we come home victorious. Those are the options that I see at this point near the end of 2009.
