According to the White House spokesman, Jay Carney, Barack Obama did not hear the remarks by Jimmy Hoffa at the event on Monday. Since he did not hear the remarks, he feels like he does not need to disavow them. That is like saying that if I did not hear it, the event did not happen.
The remarks were made. Every news show in the country on TV and Radio has played the Jimmy Hoffa remarks endlessly. There is no getting away from the fact that the remarks were made. The idea that the union thugs are going to “take out” the conservatives in this country is chilling. In slang terms, to “take out” means to kill or get rid of. That is not the same as defeating in elections. Defeating someone in an election is not “taking out” someone. That is defeating them. To take someone out means to destroy them.
Barack Obama is trying to hide behind semantics in order to not anger the unions. He has been in their back pocket since he was elected. He knows that if he is going to be re-elected he has to have the unions support him at least at the 100% level or higher. If he says anything that the unions do not like, they might not support him 100% and he will lose. He probably will still lose, even with the union support. But without the union support he has no chance of being re-elected. That is why he will not condemn Jimmy Hoffa for obviously offensive remarks.
The worst thing about the Jimmy Hoffa remarks is that he means them. He also has the ability to carry them out. The Teamsters Union, led by Jimmy Hoffa, is probably the worst or one of the worst at provoking union violence. That means if he is talking violence against conservatives, he probably will institute programs designed to intimidate or harm conservatives. It wouldn’t take too many beatings before people would be afraid to be a conservative and the unions would control the ballot box.
The other thing that the unions are trying to do is get the Middle Class and the conservatives to overreact to their over-the-top rhetoric. If we react in kind, they can point to us and claim that we are the bad guys. If it continues to only be union thugs that use violent rhetoric, they will be exposed as the thugs they are.
During the Weimar Republic, conditions were very similar to what they are in the United States today. One thing that happened to the Weimar Republic is that the communists and national socialists formed their thug groups and started street fights. People did not understand what was happening and wanted these thug fights to stop. The public called for more order and voted in politicians who promised more order. They ended up voting in the very people that were inciting the violence in the first place. The national socialists (NAZI’s) won the election and the Weimar Republic in Germany came to an end. The thugs are hoping for a similar reaction from the public in this situation. They want us to call for more order from all the violence that is taking place. They hope that they have enough communist/national socialist politicians in office to control the inevitable instability when you try and control the mobs. If they have enough communist/national socialists in office the Republic in the United States could fall. If we keep informed and do not overreact like the Germans did, we will be just fine. We just have to keep clear thinking in the face of thugs and violence. It calls for bravery from the public like we have not seen in this country for more than a generation. Let us hope that there is enough bravery to face down this onslaught of thuggery.
