Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Most of the activities over the weekend were politically correct. They were politically correct because they were run by Democrats. Democrats are afraid of offending anyone, so they offend everyone. They kept repeating that we should never forget, but they never got around to saying what we should never forget. From what was said, we should never forget we lost about 3,000 of our fellow Americans on September 11, 2001. That is about all they say we should not forget. They say absolutely nothing about who caused the events of September 11. We should never forget that as well.
I watched a video from MRC this morning with my 3 and 4 year old grandsons. It gave news reports from September 11 and 12, 2001 when we were all united. The events shown were riveting. My grandsons are just old enough to understand that people died in the Twin Towers that day. They saw the planes hit the towers and said, “Somebody died in there, didn’t they, Papa?” That was quite a bit of understanding for someone so young. My twelve year old granddaughter just remembers the commotion of that day. She was only 2 and so does not remember much about what happened.
I will never forget that morning. I was working on the computer like usual. My son Mike was watching TV in the living room before school. He shouted to me to turn on the TV in my room. I asked him why and he said an airplane hit a building. I turned on the TV in time to see the second plane hit the Tower. From then on the TV or radio was on all day. The news reports were riveting and scary. I had to teach a class that night at my community college. I went to class and all anyone wanted to talk about was the attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. So, we talked about that instead of having our regular Biology class. That was probably better for their psyche than any instruction in Biology would have been. We did not solve anything, but I think it made some of them feel better.
I was amazed at the outpouring of patriotism that occurred after 9/11. Flags were everywhere. You could not drive down a street without seeing a flag on almost every house. Now, you hardly see a flag flying on any house. Flags were on every car. Now flags are rarely seen on any car. Politics was forgotten for about a month after 9/11. Then petty squabbles started up again. Now, the political divide between left and right is bigger than I ever remember.
The selfless acts of heroism that occurred on 9/11 are inspiring. The people on flight 93 who gave their lives to stop the terrorists from using that plane as an additional weapon was particularly inspiring. I would like to think that I would have been one of those fighting to take back the plane from the hijackers, but I will never know. I do know that my ability to fight back now is much less than it was on 9/11/01. The firefighters who went up the Twin Towers to save people when the towers were in danger spoke of unimaginable bravery. How can someone be so brave when they know that time is just about up? That is a question I have asked myself over and over again throughout my life. You never know what you will do until you are faced with something similar. I know because of my police training that when the situation gets particularly dangerous, time seems to slow down. The same thing probably was happening to those brave individuals as well. It does enable you to do fantastic things that you cannot imagine possible.
We should never forget what happened on 9/11. We should never forget who caused the events of 9/11. Until the situation is resolved like Pearl Harbor is resolved, we should never forget who caused the problem. I don’t mean hate them, I just mean remember who it was and hunt them down until they cease to be any danger to the world. Then, the situation would be resolved and the memorials that were held yesterday would be appropriate. Until then, hang the political correctness that will kill us. Remember the truth and it will make you free.
