With all the good news starting to force its way out of Iraq, the left is in a tizzy. They are busy discrediting the left leaning authors as being closet right wingers. What is an honest liberal to do? If they are honest and see that things are improving, should they say so? Or, should they continue to hold to the line to the last minute until it is so obvious they are not telling the truth, that they have lost all credibility? I believe they should tell the truth. There should be a place in the left and the right for people to tell the truth. We have to be able to tell things as they are, not as we wish them to be.
That is a fundamental difference between left and right. On the left, if you have a position, you are expected to hold it regardless of evidence. On the right, if you have a position you can change it if the evidence shows that you were wrong. On the left you would be vilified for changing your position. On the right, you would be applauded for seeing things as they really are.
The left thinks that the right operates as they do. They think that we get our talking points from some central point and everyone talks the same. That is the way they do it on the left. It does not work that way on the right. We have our own opinions and are free to express them. So, when people on the right disagree on something, the left thinks we have a major problem. We think that it is making our position stronger by talking ourselves into the correct position, not the convenient position. When we talk among ourselves we get opposing points of view. These help us frame our positions better. It helps us understand what we support and why we support it. So, when we get in a debate with someone on the left, we usually have better documentation on our position. They usually resort to character destruction.
In every election cycle, the left comes out and decries character destruction in campaigns. Those of us on the right agree completely. But in any campaign situation where their position is criticized, the left resorts to character destruction. They do so, because they do not talk among themselves and come to logical conclusions. They take an emotional position and cannot defend it logically. Their only defense is to destroy the messenger, they cannot destroy the message.
This is starting to tell on Democrats in Congress. They are having a hard time keeping a lid on the good news coming out of Iraq. Jack Murtha, from Pennsylvania, slandered the two left leaning reporters who returned from Iraq and gave a glowing report on conditions there. One congresswoman left the room when the good news from Iraq was being reported. When she returned, she blasted the General making the report for reporting good news out of Iraq. They have invested so much time and energy into American defeat that an American victory would destroy them.
The Presidential candidates on the Democrat side are skipping a visit to the Democratic Leadership Council to attend a convention of the Daily Kos. The Daily Kos is a far left leaning constituency. They are vocal and do give lots of dollars in support of their position. They are also far from the mainstream of American politics. The DLC is much closer to the mainstream of American politics and would give them a greater chance to be elected President. The Daily Kos convention will make it more likely that they would be nominated for President. The Daily Kos people do vote. But they are a bunch of kooks and weirdoes. Anyone supporting their positions would have to be brain dead or simply simple. Their positions are not thought through. They are generally anti-American in their direction. Unfortunately for the US, they are American citizens and entitled to vote.
Things are changing in Iraq. The people in the US can understand that they are changing. Support for the battle in Iraq is gaining. If the trends continue, the Democrat candidates with their anti-war positions will be way out of where the public is. That is good for the Republican candidate. I believe that the Republicans will keep the White House and will regain the House. They will maintain their seats in the Senate and maybe even gain one (doubtful as they have most of the seats up for grabs). This prediction is made over one year before the election. It is probably made with rose colored glasses, but the way things are looking right now, it could happen.
